About The Production

We are pleased to announce that the second year Drama students at Liverpool John Moore’s University is performing an adaptive performance of Hope Place: A History of the Liverpool Hebrew School by Shirley Makin at the Joe H Makin Drama Centre, Liverpool, Merseyside, L1 9BG on Saturday 22nd November at 7pm; and Sunday 23rd November at 8pm.

After two fantastic performances of Oh What a Lovely War devised by Joan Littlewood and Theatre workshop; and The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahoney by ………, the Drama students of Liverpool John Moore’s University are back again with their new production One Hope Place, commemorating fifty years since the closure of the once Liverpool Hebrew School, and the memories that were left behind. Billed as the group’s most ambitious production to date, there are an abundance of people involved in bringing the story to life whether on stage or behind the scenes.

Led by Dr. Ros Merkin, and with help and inspiration from the creator of Chicken Soup and Scouse, Michael Swerdlow the group are inviting you to become part of the journey reminisced by the caretaker, allowing you to remember the first time you walked through the school gates, and the myriad of memories which you shared there. With the loveable caretaker leading the way, the group are bringing to life a love story that spans over 4 floors and 150 years. However, all is not what it seems when lives are lost, and love is perished. Following the story of the caretaker as he reminisces, will the audience find their own story and will the caretaker find what he is looking for?

Being a free performance, we ask the audience to book their places online by emailing: onehopeplace@yahoo.co.uk.

We are looking forward to seeing you on the 22nd/23rd November 2014.
